And the Fiasco Award goes to …. Vista
What are the Fiasco Awards?
The Fiasco Awards is a non-profit private initiative to reward the best IT projects that have ended up as a Fiasco. Candidate projects can be products, services o just ideas of any area in the sector of the information and communication technologies (ICT). Althought projects could have been developed by individuals, groups, institutions or companies, the awards always refers to the project itself.
Windows Vista received this “glorious” award last week. Vista received more than 6,403 votes accumulating 82% of all votes.
The Finalist nominees were…
* Autonomix, the Free Software packs distributed by public administrations
* DAB, the digital radio
* GenCat DTT Pilot Project – Maresme Digital
* Google Lively
* Mobuzz.tv, Internet television
* One Laptop per Child, the 100$ computer
* SAGA, Administration and Academic Management System
* Second Life
* Windows Vista
The funniest part of all is that this “fiasco” is so great that people demand a release of Vista SE / Windows 7 this year. To me this fiasco award just proofs that bad marketing can make a product very unpopular, yet still sells more than 140,000,000 times.
